Walmart finally reaches settlement with Morgan for crash

Long-time followers of our blog know that we regularly like to touch on news stories regarding serious motor vehicle accidents. Whether an accident occurs here in California or across the nation in another state, we like to draw attention to these cases because we think it's important for all of our readers to recognize what elements of a crash can lead to compensation and when obtaining a lawyer might be the best option.

Back in January of this year we did just that by talking about the fatal truck accident out in New Jersey involving a Walmart truck and a limousine carrying several comedians, including Tracy Morgan. If you're a regular visitor to our blog then you may have read our post about the accident and remember that Walmart settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the family of James McNair, the only victim to die in the accident.

At the time though, no further civil actions had been resolved concerning the other injured victims, which included actor and comedian Tracy Morgan. But thankfully, just shy of the one-year anniversary of the accident, reports now indicate that Walmart has settled another civil action, the personal injury claim filed by Morgan shortly after the crash. Although the specifics of the settlement have not been released, Morgan has stated that he is glad that he was able to reach an amicable resolution with Walmart, saying that the company "did right" by his family and himself.

Though the driver of the Walmart truck was criminally charged for causing the fatal accident, reports indicate that his trial still has not come to an end. In fact, the driver had tried to request a stay on Morgan's claim stating that the outcome of the civil action could negatively affect his case by infringing on his right to a fair trial. A judge denied his request though, which allowed the final settlement with Morgan and Walmart to come to fruition last month.
